Our Periodontists
Dr. Sandrine Barakat
Dr. Barakat obtained her Doctorate in Dental Medicine at the University of Montreal in 2009.
Dr. Yoonkyung Oh
She then pursued her multidisciplinary residency at the University of Rochester in 2010 and continued her post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Oh completed her speciality in periodontics in 2013 as well as a Masters of Science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she later was a teacher in the Department of Periodontics. Dr. Yoonkyung Oh practiced in a private clinic in New York until 2018. She currently practices periodontics with an implantology service in private practice in Laval.
Dr. Oh is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She is a member of several associations, including the American Academy of Periodontology and the Association des Parodontistes du Québec.
Dr. Pierre-Yves Thibodeau
Dr. Nathalie Rei
Dr. Nathalie Rei obtained her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Université de Montréal in 2005 and completed a Multidisciplinary Residency at the Montreal General Hospital (McGill University) in 2006.
She then continued her studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she completed a Certificate in Oral Medicine and a Master’s Degree in Dental Sciences in 2009. Her master’s research focused on diagnostic tools for oral neuropathic pain.
Dr. Rei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Stomatology at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Université de Montréal, where she has taught oral medicine at both the undergraduate and graduate levels since 2010.
In addition to her academic role, Dr. Rei evaluates, treats, and follows patients with various oral diseases and orofacial pain conditions.
Dr. Adel Kauzman
Dr. Adel Kauzman is a specialist in oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial pathology. He obtained his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Université de Montréal in 1998.
He later pursued further training at the University of Toronto, where he completed his specialty training as well as a Master’s Degree in Science in 2004. His master’s research focused on molecular changes in bone tumours.
Dr. Kauzman is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and has served as an examiner for the College since 2007.
He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Stomatology at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Université de Montréal. In June 2020, he was appointed Director of the Department for a four-year term. He also served for many years as Head of the Diagnostic and Emergency Department at the Faculty of Dentistry.
Dr. Kauzman established the oral pathology service shortly after joining the University in 2004. He is affiliated with the CHUM, although he does not currently practise in a hospital setting.
He regularly presents national and international lectures related to his specialty and publishes articles in scientific journals aimed at both general dentists and specialists. A full list of his publications is available on the Université de Montréal website.
Dr. Kauzman has been practising oral medicine since 2004. He treats patients with a variety of oral lesions and diseases, as well as those suffering from chronic orofacial pain conditions.
He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of precancerous and cancerous lesions of the oral cavity.
Part of his practice also includes the microscopic analysis of biopsies submitted by general dentists and specialists to the CMB Oral Pathology Service.
